Just before you go sending out those ‘happy new month’ messages to your WhatsApp contacts and friends, it is expedient that you take out a moment to go through this post.
Humans live in seasons and periods. This is why centuries ago, we found ways to structure the time we have into days, weeks, months and years. The consciousness and awareness of periods and seasons have continued to stay with us and I doubt they will ever leave.
At the beginning of every New Year, you make resolutions and set goals. It is the beginning of a new month again, chances are you don’t remember any of the resolutions or goals you set out for yourself at the beginning of the year. And if you don’t remember them, how then are you going to achieve them?
Well, just before you start feeling sorry for yourself, I want you to know that you are not alone in the ‘goal forgetfulness’ Whatsapp Group. So, don’t beat yourself. However, there are three important things you can do to ensure that in this new month, you are moving closer to achieving those goals you set at the beginning of the year.
Review Your Goals And Progress Made
The first thing you want to do at the beginning of every month is to review the goals you set out for the year. Reviewing your goals simply entails going through them to measure their relevance to you, and where you are. In reviewing them, you will need to ask yourself the following questions and answer them for yourself:
- What progress have I made in achieving these goals?
- If little or no progress, what have been my challenges?
- Of the goals I set out, which ones are still relevant based on my current realities – career or business, skills acquired, knowledge and experience gained, income level and network?
- Of the goals, I set out, which ones are no longer relevant based on my current realities?
Set New Goals For The Month
When you have reviewed the goals you have for the year and you are satisfied with the results of your review, the next thing to do is to set new goals to work on for the month.
These new goals could be the same as the ones you already have as one of your year’s goals, it could be a smaller goal that will help move you closer to the bigger goal you have set out for the year or it could be a new goal entirely that you never thought of at the beginning of the year that has become relevant at this time in the year.
For instance, your goal for the year may be to end the year at 20 million naira. For the new month, you could decide to work on this goal. Driving yourself to achieve the 20 million naira mark may not be realistic for you at your present state and may leave you frustrated with yourself.
Therefore work on it in a way that will not be you driving yourself crazy, you can divide the year’s goals and evenly spread it out across the months of the year. The amount you have for a month is what you should be working on for this new month.
Set Plan For The Month
The third important thing you need to do after you have reviewed your goals and set new ones is to set the plan for achieving the goals. In setting your plan, you need to ensure it is simple and comprehensible. Your plan should among all other things, be able to tell you, what it is you are working on, what you need and how to get what you need.
This is inspiring. Thank you
